A rural New Zealand vacation turns poisonous.

Antiquities expert Annalisse Drury and tycoon Alec Zavos are at an impasse in their relationship when Alec refuses to clear up a paternity issue with an ex-lover.

Frustrated with his avoidance when their future is at stake, Annalisse accepts an invitation from an acquaintance to fly to New Zealandโ€”hoping to escape the recent turbulence in her life.

But even Annalisseโ€™s cottage idyll on thefamily sheep farm isnโ€™t immune to intrigue.

Alec sends a mutual friend and detective, Bill Drake, to follow her, and a local resident who accompanies them from the Christchurch airport dies mysteriously soon after. A second violent death finds Annalisse and Bill at odds with the official investigations.

The local police want to close both cases as quickly as possibleโ€”without unearthing the townโ€™s dirty secrets.

As she and Bill pursue their own leads at serious cost, the dual mysteries force Annalisse to question everything she thought she knew about family ties, politics, and the art of small-town betrayal.

Copper Waters is book four in the Annalisse series. Copper Waters continues the story of Annalisse Drury and her whirlwind of a life. Annalisse has had an interesting life so far with the secrets invading her life. She decides to take an invitation from a friend to fly to New Zealand so search for her mother. Alec decides to have her watched by a mutual friend after a murder in the area is reported. Tensions continue to rise as another death surfaces. Bill and Annalisse decide to attempt to solve the murders individually and start digging. Do we know that some secrets want to be kept secrets? What will she find out and will she ever look at the people Iโ€™m her life the same way after?

I have not read any other books in the series. I started with book four and read the synopsis of the other books in the series. I did not feel lost or confused starting with book four. This book takes you on a journey from the start with a first chapter that dives right into the storyline without sugarcoating it. Chapter one dives straight into discussing an interrupted proposal with a curveball that causes challenges in their marriage. That is not the only challenge that she is facing as her life continues to be turned upside down as more secrets get unveiled from her past. Where is her mother? What is true and why are people so keen on sabotaging each otherโ€™s lives? Overall the storyline was enthralling with turns and twists that kept me captivated the entire time. The author did such a wonderful job with the story that I canโ€™t wait to see how the story continues and how their lives continue to unfold.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great series to start a new mystery series with drama.

*Disclaimer: A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review. I reviewed book three of this series. Please note the opinions in this review are solely my own and do not reflect the views of others.*

Book 1 – Summaryย

The series starts of strong with the introduction of Professor Noah Roth. A professor whose search for a specific gene leads to the mysterious death of mothers. He is on the search for a gene that triggers supernatural gifts in babies. Two nurses’ step in to save two of the four babies with this specific gene from further exploitation. Hope and Ben Hunt, the two nurses, escaped to a small town in Texas. The two strikes a deal with the local Sheriff to ensure the secrecy and safety of the two children. This was until the professor sends two other youth with gifts to find them. A battle for survival leads to some sleep, one searching through the mind of the others, and a group of teens trying to save each other.ย ย

Book 2 – Summaryย

The trilogy continues in book two with Professor Noahโ€™s possessive desire to find his โ€œchildren.โ€ The specific set of kids he created with the use of genetic modification. The Sheriff of Willow Bend, the small town in Texas Hope and Ben escaped to with Holly and Black, helps the youth group kids find Ben and Hope. Professor Noah took Ben and Hope with him during the first havoc that occurred in Willow Bend. The youth kids continue to do more digging into the professor to learn more about themselves but uncover shocking secrets. Professor Noah is still upset with Ben and Hope and seeks vengeance for stealing his โ€œchildren.โ€ The kids are in a race against time to make it Ben and Hope before the professor does something unimaginable to the two as an attempt for revenge.ย ย

Book 3 โ€“ Full Reviewย

The trilogy continues with the youth group on the run from the professor, recovering from the events that occurred with Hope and Ben, and trying to rescue the remaining kids from the Wyoming and Oregon facilities. Everyone is trying to work together taking it one day and one moment at a time. Each child has their own specific gifts that help the group while some gifts allow for a tethered connect between the child and the professor. Any small slip up will cause the professor to figure out their state location and track them down to bring them back with him. The teens split up and headed in different directions to try to rescue their remaining siblings. Does the professor already know where they are? ย

Each character was developed in a way that helped the other characters without taking too much from the storyline. You get to get to know the supporting characters and see relationships develop and flourish. This youth group has been through tough times and yet they try to work together supporting each other to achieve the goal, rescue their siblings without the professor getting alerted. These attempts do not come easy as tensions flare as people grow and change under the new experiences. Imagine being genetically manipulated and living under the guise your entire life to realize the person you have seen as father is not on your side. The characters go through a lot of changes, but the author does an excellent job of taking you on the journey with them. ย

I started this series with book three and read summaries of book one and two. This bookย was captivating and caught my attention right from the start. I enjoyed the photographs of the characters in the beginning of the book and the dedication. I also liked that the book has a Christian influence where the youth pray for each other and the bible verses in the beginning of the text. I enjoyed the interaction between characters as they seek the best interest of each other. Throughout the text you will find scriptures, quotes, and moments of prayer between the youth group. This was my first time reading this type of Christian text and I enjoyed it. I loved the way the author intertwined faith, suspense, relationships, and coming of age moments throughout the text. The story was developed in a way that caught and kept my attention throughout. I commend the author for producing such a beautifully written text.ย ย

ย I highly recommend this book for teens interested in a Christian science fiction read. This is the first of this kind that I have read, and I enjoyed it.ย

Finding My Destynee is book three in the Rafter O Ranch series. This romance novel continues the story of Destynee and Travis. The story begins with Travis divulging his current relationship with his wife Destynee. Travis, a loving and supportive husband, wants nothing more than stand by his wife’s decisions. However, with a small child involved things can get messy. Destynee, a young female singer, was allowed to chase her dreams, and with the support of her husband she left. Both are struggling with their decisions, contemplating if they made the right choice. Will Travis chase after his Destynee or will Destynee chase after her destiny?

This book is a sweet romance novel that takes us through the life of Destynee and Travis. The books is during the Christmas season and each chapter has a countdown to the holiday. Destynee’s mother wants her to continue to sing and chase after her dreams. Her mother doesn’t want her family to hold her daughter back from chasing her dreams. The family dynamic of the storyline continues to unfold as the main characters work through doubts about choices made. Throughout the entire novel, you get to hear from the perspective of Destynee and Travis as the chapters alternate between their points of view.

I have not had the opportunity to read that many books written by two authors. I will say that the author’s writing styles meshed well together. Overall, this book was a fairly easy read. The authors donโ€™t do a lot with the development of the characters, but I assume this is due to this being book three in a series. The book ended smoothly and the storyline was easy to follow. I wish there was a bit more action, more romance, and more twists and turns. However, I did love the Christmas influence and the countdown at the beginning of each chapter.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in a clean Christmas romance novel. This book is geared toward adults but can be read by anyone interested in romance.

This collection of the Covey Jencks series is memorable. The author does a fantastic job with the selection of the audiobook for this collection of titles. Narrator Stephen Lookadoo has a voice that fits perfectly for the audio versions of these three titles. I can’t imagine how hard it is for an author to search for a narrator that has the ability to due the story justice and capture the attention of the reader the entire time. I am a huge fan of audiobooks. I also tend to transfer between reading the book and listening to it simultaneously.
The three books in this audiobook collection wereย Covey Jencksย (book 1),ย Covey and JayJay Get Educatedย (book 2), andย The Chinese Murder of Edward Wattsย (book 3).
Covey Jencks :This story is set the stage and the development of the beloved main character Covey. We get to see the full back story and development of Covey and his relationship with JayJay. Something from his past drew him back to his hometown and he intends to see it to the end. This book is a well-developed, fast paced, engaging novel with many twists and turns. This is definitely a page turner and one you would not want to put down.
Covey and JayJay Get Educated : This book is filled with twists, turns , and interrogations. There were numerous occasions where I gasped out loud while reading and laughed at the interactions between the main characters and supporting characters. Throughout the whole novel I thought I had a pretty good idea of why the murders occurred until closer towards the end and I noticed there was a bigger issue at hand than the murders.
The Chinese Murder of Edward Wattsย : The story is filled with โ€œghostsโ€ from the past coming back to โ€œhauntโ€ Covey and JayJay. This comical pair are a match made in partner heaven as they navigate an investigation with multiple loopholes. I did not expect this many twists and turns when I began diving into this novel and I was thoroughly surprised as the story continued to develop.
I highly recommend you check out this audiobook collection as you won’t be disappointed. You will enjoy this novel if you are looking for a thought-provoking adult mystery novel that focuses on social issues deep in the heart of Texas. This Texas-sized series will leaving wanting more from the author and wanting to finish the entire collection in one sitting.

Synopsis

In 1970, 13-year-old Jody Moran wants pierced ears, a kiss from a boy, and more attention from her mother. It’s not fair. Seems like her mother is more worked up about the Apollo 13 astronauts, who may not make it back to earth safely. As it happens, the astronauts are spared a crash landing, but Jody is not, for three days after splashdown, her mother dies in a car accident. Now, Jody will never know if her mother really loved her. Jody’s father has taught them to believe in the “Power of Intention.” Announce what you want to the world to make it happen. But could the power of Jody’s jealousy and anger have caused Mom’s accident? To relieve her guilt and sadness, she devotes herself to mothering her three younger siblings and helping Dad, which quickly proves too much for her, just as persuading quirky Grandma Cupcakes to live with them proves too much for Grandma. That’s when Jody decides to find someone to marry her father, a new mom who will love her best. Jody reads high and low to learn about love, marriage and death. For her adolescent firstsโ€”kiss, bra, and boyfriendโ€”she has the help of her popular older sister, her supportive father, and comical Grandma. But each first, which makes her miss her mother, teaches her that death doesn’t happen just once.

In her own words, Kerry L. Malawista shares the inspiration for writing her novel. “I lost my mother at the age of nine, and many patients in my psychotherapy practice come to me struggling with loss. I recognized my own experience in a teenage patient who admitted that she was furious at her mother for dying of cancer but also guilty for wishing her dead…. I had to write this book because I was the child left behind, I was the teen wracked with guilt, and I am the adult helping others through it.”

Final Thoughts

This heartfelt book begins with a tragedy. Jody Moran has just turn thirteen and struggles with the changes that are happening around her.  To make matters even worse, she loses her mother in a horrific car accident and her family is thrust into a world of newness. Told from the perspective of Jody, we get to see her life unfold before our eyes as she navigates grief and puberty. Her family now a family of five instead of six, must learn to adjust to their new normal without their mother. The glue that kept the family together. Prior to her mother passing, Jody felt as if her mother was not giving her enough attention. After her mother’s death she must learn to cope with the loss and the guilt she feels. The days and months following her mother’s death lead to numerous changes. Their grandmother attempts to help her father with the kids after a few failed baby sitter attempts and Jody begins to navigate her life as a teen. She makes an unlikely friendship with her neighbor and son and is able to talk through her emotions associated with the loss of her mother and navigating friendships at school. The Moran family bond continues to build as they work together to provide support to each other. Joe Moran attempts to navigate the dating scene while keeping up with is business and parenting. This family goes through a lot together as they attempt to create their own version of a happy ending.

The author does a wonderful job with this novel. She channels her own grief to develop characters that are both relatable and realistic. The story flows well and kept me captivated the entire time. I loved the development of each character and the descriptive writing style made me feel as if I was transported into the text. I felt the same emotions that Jody felt. One of my favorite quotes from the novel was from an interaction between Jody and her neighbor about loss.

“Yep. I am not sure if it’s worse remembering or forgetting her.”

This reminded me so much of my own experience with loss and grief. I was drawn to novel mostly because of how I knew I would relate to the story. I lost my mom when I was six years old and went through similar changes. I was given a similar book that talked about grief and how to deal with it. Losing a parent is difficult and grief has no time limit. I enjoyed reading about Jody and her woes of puberty. This reminded me of the middle school me getting my first bra and having my first crush. The author does a phenomenal job with this story and topic. She has the ability to bring awareness to grief all while remaining sensitive to the reader. I’ve read other text that would require a trigger warning but this book touches the topic with such tenderness that a warning is not required.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely

James Wade, whose first two novels were praised as โ€œrhapsodicโ€ and โ€œhaunting,โ€ delivers his most powerful work to dateโ€”a chilling parable about the impossible demands of hate and love, trauma and goodness, vividly set in the landscapes of Texas and Louisiana.

Beasts of the Earthย tells the story of Harlen LeBlanc, a dependable if quiet employee of the Carter Hills High Schoolโ€™s grounds department, whose carefully maintained routine is overthrown by an act of violence. As the town searches for answers, LeBlanc strikes out on his own to exonerate a friend, while drawing the eyes of the law to himself and fending off unwelcome voices that call for a sterner form of justice.

Twenty years earlier, young Michael Fischer dreads the return of his father from prison. He spends his days stealing from trap lines in the Louisiana bayou to feed his fanatically religious mother and his cherished younger sister, Doreen. When his father eventually returns, an evil arrives in Michaelโ€™s life that sends him running from everything he has ever known. He is rescued by a dying poet and his lover, who extract from him a promise: to be a good man, whatever that may require.

Beasts of the Earthย deftly intertwines these stories, exploring themes of time, fate, and free will, to produce a revelatory conclusion that is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

PRAISE FOR BEASTS OF THE EARTH

โ€œWadeโ€™s pitch-perfect, personality-driven dialogue sings in the voice of life, and his ability to meld existential thought, situational metaphor, and cinematic setting is a full-bodied experienceโ€ฆA soul-deep exploration of a wounded man in crisis, James Wadeโ€™s Beasts of the Earthโ€ฆsecures his position as an author of extraordinary merit.โ€ โ€”New York Journal of Books

โ€œJames Wade writes a terrific story, but that isnโ€™t what makes him so good. Wade is a craftsman. His books should be read slowly, to luxuriate in his word choices, his sentence structure, his character revelation. That is why he is a joy to read.โ€ โ€”James L. Haley, Spur Awardโ€“winning author of the Bliven Putnam Naval Adventures

โ€œI found myself rooting for the characters throughout their near-Biblical tribulations, and the storyline kept me turning the pages, desperate to find out what would happen next. Here we have a novel that blends realism with existentialist philosophy to redefine contemporary Southern fiction. Donโ€™t miss this tour de force of modern literature.โ€ โ€”David Heska Wanbli Weiden, Spur and Anthony Awardโ€“winning author of Winter Counts

Beasts of the Earth takes the reader on two different journeys through the lives of 12-year-old Michael Fischer and High School groundskeeper, Harlen LeBlanc. Harlan is portrayed as a man invested in his trade with a troubled past looking for redemption. Harlan befriends a young worker at his job and steps in to help the new guy who still hasnโ€™t come to terms with a recent breakup. After an accident occurs and his new friend is considered the prime suspect, Harlen steps in to do his own investigation. Michael Fischer is a young boy attempting to navigate life below the poverty line. Michael is developed as a character longing for more and for the protection of his family from his Father. Both men tied to a past they have tried to escape must face the truth. The question is, what will it cost them?

The author does an amazing job developing the complexity of each character. His writing style transported me into the lives of the characters forcing me to feel the same emotions the characters were feeling. I enjoyed the alternating chapters highlighting each character. The book is filled with edge-of-your-seat moments where you have no idea what will happen next. Throughout the story, I felt the emotions of each character and the sadness emanating from each page. I could not put down this book once I started. I related to Michael as he struggled with his relationship with his Father and Mother and wanted to be a protector of his sister. I related to Harlen purely due to his desire to want to be a savior to those who were lost. In a world where generational curses, crime, and pressure run rampant, it is hard to attempt to set your own path and do the right thing. This book does a wonderful job of highlighting some of the hauntings associated with your past and the struggle between past you and present you.

This is the first book Iโ€™ve read by this author but from the impact, this story had on me, it wonโ€™t be the last. I would highly recommend this book to adults interested in thrilling read. The book contains various twists and turns that leave your mouth gaped open at the end.

All I have to say is, well done James Wade, well done!

2 YEAR FITNESS UPDATE 2022

Recap of Why I Started This Journey

Almost two years ago I reached out to a fitness coach via Instagram and started my plan to get healthier. The overall goal behind the plan was to be able to fit into a bridesmaid dress for my best friends wedding. The dress was two big and I had two options; either get the dress taken in or gain the weight. That is when I decided to gain the weight. This was after their wedding was postponed again due to COVID. The journey was absolutely painful and I struggled a lot with meeting my daily macros and I felt like I wasn’t gain weight. The comparison mindset is so toxic that I felt trapped by the number on the scale.

The Full Journey

In order to understand where I’ve come I must recap of where I began. I began with zero knowledge of weight training and working out. I weight about 115 and am 5ft 7in. I would occasionally run to relieve stress but that was the extent of my exercising. I was anemic and ran into multiple health problems due to my poor diet. A common misconception was that I was healthy because I was small. That was false. I constantly had people approach me and tell me that it must be nice to stay small and eat what I wanted. I had a toxic relationship with food and I wanted to heal and be healthy. I went to therapy, joined a few bible studies, hiked more, and exercised. Getting healthy involves working on yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I got the coach and started working out 4 days a week and then we switched to 5. I started tracking my macros and learned how to properly shop for food. The journey was brutal. The first month it hurt to move and sit. I would practice proper technique at home before working out at the gym. I made a lot of mistakes and my workouts took two hours each day to complete. Learning a new skill is hard and it takes a lot of time and practice. You constantly have to watch yourself to ensure you do not injure yourself. I had to learn to listen to my body fully. I cried a lot and hit rock bottom essentially. It was all worth it in the end.

Where Am I Now?

Let me answer some questions about what I’ve been up to:

  1. Did you meet your goal weight?
    • Yes. My goal weight milestone 1 was 135. I hit that last year. My goal weight milestone 2 was 145. I hit that at the beginning of this year. My next milestone is 155.
  2. How is your diet?
    • I no longer track my macros using an app. I learned what my body needed and became more conscience about what I purchase. I eat a bit more food. I typically eat a high carb breakfast: peanut butter toast, yogurt, and a banana. Then I eat a high protein lunch and high protein dinner. I snack throughout the day with nuts, chips, vegetables, protein bars, protein shakes, and I have a low sugar treat after dinner. I am currently maintaining my current weight.
  3. Do you still go to the gym?
    • No. I cancelled my gym membership due to my schedule and me wanting to spend more time with family. I took a 6 month break from exercising to work on my mental health. I work out at home 2-3 times a week. I have a yoga mat, two 15 pound dumbbells, resistance bands, and a weighted ball. I typically with do a split workout or I use MadFit workouts on YouTube. Right now this works for me.
  4. Anything you’ve learned along the way so far?
    • Who you surround yourself with is important. You are who you hang around with.
    • You can’t expect others to love you if you won’t love you first. Take care of yourself.
    • Listen to your body and take a break if you need to. No you aren’t a failure if you rest.
    • If you are serious about weight training, hire a coach. A coach is not a baby sitter and will not coddle you. They are vital.
    • You have to sleep. Understand that getting a good nights rest is important to muscle growth and recovery.
    • You can’t just skip meals and expect to see results. Follow a meal plan when you get started and eat. Your body needs fuel.
    • Take care of yourself. Get an annual physical, go to the dentist, and go to therapy. I struggled with stomach issues and an iron deficiency for the first three months of training.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the trainer I used or any of the information listed above. Here was my coach https://www.instagram.com/dianagfitness/?hl=en . She does offer online training which is what I did. She is absolutely amazing at her job! She even had a free macro book https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LAFDr0ANYvYs38R3jknjdAEmBQsXyG-3/view

Ever since Eve was banned from the garden, women have endured the oftentimes painful and inaccurate definitions foisted upon them by the patriarchy. Maiden, mother, and crone, representing the three stages assigned to a womanโ€™s life cycle, have been the limiting categories of both ancient and modern (neo-pagan) mythology. And one label in particular rankles: crone. The word conjures a wizened hagโ€”useless for the most part, marginalized by appearance and ability.

None of us has ever truly fit the old-crone image, and for todayโ€™s midlife women, a new archetype is being birthed: the Creatrix.

In Creatrix Rising, Raffelock lays outโ€”through personal stories and essaysโ€”the highlights of the past fifty years, in which women have gone from a quiet strength to a resounding voice. She invites us along on her own transformational journey by providing probing questions for reflection so that we can flesh out and bring to life this new archetype within ourselves. If what the Dalai Lama has predictedโ€”that women will save the worldโ€”proves true, then the Creatrix will for certain be out front, leading the pack.

Creatrix Rising is a self-help-style book that allows the reader to take moments throughout the book to reflect. After each chapter, the author provides self-reflection questions. A creatrix is described as a woman who is creative without the limitations of age set by society.

Each chapter in this book allows the reader to be transferred inside the mind of the author. The reader gets to be a part of the thought process of the author as the author analyzes pivotal moments in her life, which shaped her to become the person she is today. This includes diving deeper in order to truly understand the full make-up of a womanโ€™s life and the cultural projection constantly forced upon women. Women are seen as obsolete beings once they hit the age of 40, and at the spark of a creative high are seen as having a mid-life crisis. For decades women have been seen as “less than,” compared to men. Women were meant to give up their dreams and serve as a caretaker for many.

Stephanie takes a stance on highlighting aspects of her life where she has worked to take back the authority taken from women by men for decades. She shares stories of family, the choices of women in her life, relationships, survival, recovery, healing, loss, forgiveness, and her life in the workforce. She talks about the impact of relationships she developed and her connection to her ancestors. She begins to fully understand the choices her mother and grandmother made in their lifetime and starts to see them as the women they were.

Throughout the entire novel, we get a chance to truly understand how the author has grown to become the person she is today. She finally finds her voice and learns to share her story and allow her story to impact others. This includes her being able to watch her life come full circle and inevitably achieving her dream of becoming a writer.

This central text provides such a diverse set of contexts that you are able to connect to every story shared, every moment of realization, and every relationship dissection. I highly recommend this novel to any woman regardless of age. This novel highlights many aspects of a womanโ€™s life and the challenges women continue to face. It will reignite a fire in you that encourages the reader to give themselves space for their creative minds to prosper.

I enjoyed the audiobook narration. The story flowed very well and I was able to stay alert throughout the reading. I listened to the audiobook in one sitting and loved it.

This book and author are truly one-of-a-kind, and I cannot encourage you any more emphatically to run to shelves to grab yourself a copy of it.

*Disclaimer: This review is solely my opinion and does not reflect the viewpoints of the author or publisher. A finished e-book copy of this book was provided for review.*

“Love and the Dream Come True,” is the final installment in the “State of Grace” book series. This book ends the series with a conclusion to Cameronโ€™s story and an update on Darcy from the second book. Although this book is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Cameron is contractually bound in a record contract where his heart is no longer in his music. He is torn between facing the future and dealing with the skeletons in his past. This Christian romance novel will have you feeling a wide range of emotions as you watch the story unfold.ย

This book is from the perspective of the two main characters, Cameron and Lexie. Cameron is a multi-dimensional character with a range of emotions that had me feeling like I was sitting next to him. He is the main character in this book,ย which starts with him reliving old memories and hashing out the details of his record contract. In an attempt to clear his mind, at the advice of his manager, Cameron heads home to Texas for an extended vacation. He arrives in time for his sisterโ€™s wedding surprised to see his old band mates, Darcy and Bryson. In an attempt to rush out of the wedding, he runs into Morgan, the daughter of his sister’s best friend, Lexie. Morgan shares with Cameron that her mother has an embarrassing obsession with the music star. Cameron meets Lexie in his final attempt to escape the event only to realize days later that they live in the same neighborhood. Lexie gets more chances to get to know Cameron, her best friendโ€™s brother, and childhood crush. Lexie hasnโ€™t been dealt the greatest hand in life after experiencing loss and maintaining life and business as a single mother. Cameron and Lexie both recognize that they need to tread lightly in their friendship if it has any chance of being more. Throughout the story, life continues to throw curve balls at the two as they work to heal relationships all while noting the looming record deal that awaits a decision.ย

Both Cameron and Lexie are developed realistically. Author Tammy Gray does a great job developing the supporting characters and creating a story that has multiple layers. Throughout the reading, I was on the verge of tears, sadness, and happiness. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the author has a true writing talent. The bookย has a strong presence of faith and family bondsย and also focuses on real issues such as anxiety, trauma, grief, faith, forgiveness, and so much more. Each topic is addressed in a manner that is sensitive to readers who may have experienced similar instances.

I recommend this book to readers interested in a clean Christian romance novel that highlights healing. If you havenโ€™t checked out the otherย books in the series, I highly recommend you do.

Rating: 5 out of 5 STARS
*Disclaimer: This review is solely my opinion and does not reflect the viewpoints of the author or publisher. A finished e-book copy of this book was provided for review.*
“Fancy” is book 10 of the Love Train series. Fancy Dalton is a woman born and raised in a small town in Nebraska. Her story begins with a traumatic and tragic birth story and the start of the tale of a desperate mother.
Fancyโ€™s life is anything but perfect. However, she continues to try to keep her composure as life throws numerous curveballs in her direction in a short time. In an attempt to clear her conscience, the midwife who helped with the birth of the baby informs her that her child is not dead. In a brief moment, Fancy’s plans of continuing to work as a waitress are no more after a recent loss. She packs up her life and heads on a train to find her stolen baby. The journey to her new, unfamiliar destination comes with many twists and turns. First, her bag gets stolen while boarding the train. Then an unlikely hero is captivated by her presence and retrieves her bag.
Fancy is finally able to confide in her new friend Jack. The two build an unlikely bond and work together on a new mission. They see a young orphaned girl on the train and vow to help her. Fancy and Jack work to resolve issues from their past and create a future. Youโ€™ll have to read the book to find out if their future is together or separate.
Fancyโ€™s character is built as someone kind and compassionate. Of course, I love a good book with drama and a semi-happy ending. This book is well written. It shows the author spent time developing each character and creating a heartwarming story that will leave any reader audibly sighing. There are parts of this book that can be triggering for anyone who has experienced loss and sexual assault, so I recommend proceeding with caution if you have experienced any of these things.
I recommend this book for readers interested in a romance novel with an edge. Although this book is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel. If you havenโ€™t checked out the other books in the series, I highly recommend you do.

PRAISE FOR FANCY:

“I have loved every Linda Broday book I have read, but I must say this one touched my heart.” Cricket (Goodreads)

“Linda Broday waved her magic wand when her turn came and gave us one of her most profound heroines sheโ€™s ever written. Fancy wrapped her tragic story around my heart and transported me into the late 1800s.” Tonya (Goodreads)

“Linda Broday has always been able to weave her characters together like a mix-match patch quilt, but the end results are amazing.” Rose Ann (Goodreads)

“…Her ability to convey the goodness of their souls will leave the reader wanting more.” Sally (Goodreads

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of thirty historical western romance novels and short stories. I reside in the Texas Panhandle on land the American Indian and early cowboys once roamed, and at times if the breeze is just right, I can hear their voices whispering in the wind. Texasโ€™s rich history is one reason I set all my stories here where cowboys still remain caretakers of the land. Iโ€™m inspired every day by their immense dedication and love for the wide-open spaces. I combine those men with the love of family in all my stories and hope to continue to give readers books that entertain and fulfill.
